When walking in darkness, rather than bearing on another's burdens, we instead tend to compare them. In doing this, we are acting and projecting false righteousness. It is only by walking in the light that we know we are all guilty while being made righteous through Christ. During our survey of the book of 1 John, we have learned Christians are in Christ and not of the world. We can and have overcome the world because we are in Christ. In the fifth sermon of his series entitled Blessed Assurance, Pastor Jared defines antichrists as those in the church that deny Christ by their words and lifestyle. Scripture tells us that the children of God are a peculiar people. We are forever part of the family of God, and the lifestyle we lead should point to who our Father is. It is this pursuit of holiness that distinguishes us from nonbelievers. In the sixth sermon of his series entitled Blessed Assurance, Pastor Jared speaks to this pursuit, referencing 1 John: 2:29-3:10.

As Christians, we must love one another. We're made in the image of a loving God, and complete love only comes from God through His Son. If we do not love, then we do not know God and His love does not dwell in us. In the ninth sermon of Pastor Jared's series entitled Blessed Assurance, we learn all humans have some capacity to love and that this is the common grace of God. All of scripture hinges on this love. He references 1 John 4:7-10.

We love because God first loved us, and we love with the love God has lavishly shed in our hearts. If this love in us is fearless, then why do we fear to love and share the gospel? If we love one another, then God's love is perfected in us, and we reveal Him to the world. Love for God is not an emotional commitment, but a moral one. The hard work has been done by Christ, and we need to be willing to do life together as a body of believers. Now we must love one another, knowing that our faith is the victory that has overcome the world. Being confident in our salvation leads to a life in which we have a confident prayer life, a confidence that God will hear our prayers of intercession, and a confidence that we can resist sin by God's grace.
